Q: Can I talk to other customers to ask about their experiences with this tool? A: Yes please do! Click here to join the discussion on the ThumperTalk. Q: Why is adjusting my TPS necessary? A: To improve performance! Smoother running, reduce or eliminate flame outs, easier starting and better throttle response.

Q: Why does this work? A: This works for 2 reasons. First, due to manufacturing tolerances, all throttle bodies are not absolutely identical. Some let through slightly more air than others, and adjusting the TPS voltage allows you to find the value that gives you the best result for your specific throttle body. Second, some models such as the KTM EXC models come with excessively lean fuel maps that can lead to misfiring, stumbling and flame outs at small throttle openings.

Raising the TPS voltage slightly increases fueling resulting in reduced flame outs and a significant improvement in smoothness and performance, especially at small throttle openings. Q: Is this really as simple as it sounds? A: Yes, TPS adjustments are very simple! Simply increase the voltage. If it's better, increase another. Continue as long as you see improvement. Squeaky back brake? The bike now has an Akrapovic full system exhaust which I fitted in January After 1 month ride, I have this serious problem where I would loss the throttle control when slowing down from rpm e. The bike will just rev at rpm and go by itself like a uncontrollable US Air Force drone! I have no choice but to shut the engine off and restart again.

Remove your Healtech gear indicator, it may be causing your problem. The air temp sensor fault is from having the air temp sensor unplugged when the key was on.

While I was away for the last 2 weeks, I left my bike with my local KTM mechanic hoping that he could resolve that and he kept me updated through Whatsapp. He cleaned the throttle body and adjusted many things around the throttle body, removed the gear indicator temporarily. Yet when I picked the motorcycle yesterday the problem still visible albeit significantly much less less severe.

Suddenly when I reached home, after reading through kevxtx again, I found out the throttle cable push and pull lock nuts one long nut and one stopper nut near the throttle handle was severely loose.

Then I just retighten the nuts. This morning when I tested the bike on highway, city traffic and the problem was resolved significantly. Later I also change the sprocket and new chain set. Afterward the problem completely gone.

Everything is perfect now. Apparently the main cause was the loosen throttle cable lock nuts which I believe loosen when had I adjusted the handlebar kind of to improve the ergonomic few weeks ago right before this issues started.

The TPS provides the most direct signal to the fuel injection system of what power demands are being made by the engine. The TPS signal is continually measured and combined many times per second with other data such as air temperature, engine RPM, air mass flow, and how quickly the throttle position changes. The collected data determines precisely how much fuel to inject into the engine at any given moment.

If the throttle position sensor and its other sensor partners do their jobs correctly, your car accelerates, cruises, or coasts smoothly and efficiently, as you expect, while maintaining optimum fuel economy. The throttle position sensor can fail in several ways, all of which result in poor fuel economy at best, and performance limitations that may create a safety hazard for you and other motorists at worst. It can also cause problems when changing gears, or setting base ignition timing. This sensor can fail gradually, or all at once.

This is intended to at least allow a driver to get off a busy highway in a safer manner. Replacing the TPS will include clearing relevant fault codes, and may require software reprogramming of the new TPS module to match other engine management software.

This is all best left to a professional mechanic who can provide you with a diagnosis, and then install the correct replacement part. It may feel as though the car simply doesn't accelerate as it should, and jerks or hesitates as it picks up speed. It may accelerate smoothly, but lack power.

If these symptoms occur, there's a good chance you've got a problem with the TPS. When the car accelerates while driving, it usually means the butterfly valve inside the throttle has closed up and pops open suddenly when the driver presses on the accelerator. This gives the car an unintended burst of speed that occurs because the sensor cannot detect the closed position of the throttle. If you start to experience engine misfires, stalling, or rough idling when the car is stopped, it can also be a warning sign of a failing TPS.

You don't want to wait to get this checked out! If the idling appears off, it means the computer is unable to identify the fully shut throttle. The TPS can also send bad input that ends up stalling the engine at any time. This is another failure mode of the TPS, which indicates that it is falsely limiting the power being requested with your accelerator pedal foot. You may find that your car will accelerate, but not beyond a speed of 20 - 30 MPH.

This symptom often goes hand in hand with loss-of-power behavior. Have your vehicle checked for trouble codes to verify the source of the problem. The throttle position sensor is key to getting the desired power and fuel efficiency from your vehicle in any driving situation.

As the symptoms listed above make clear, failure of this component has serious safety implications and must be checked out immediately by a qualified mechanic. The most popular service booked by readers of this article is Fuel System Inspection.

FAQs can go in here too. The pictures are taken without the airbox. They're both on the RHS of the throttle bodies, sitting on one throttle body each. On the front connector blackstick a pin or something similar next to the white or yellow cable depending on which connecting piece you connect to, male or female down hard to get contact. Use a voltmeter to check the voltage. Put the ground on some none painted metallic part of the engine, and the positive end on one of the needles.

The ignition should be on. The front should be set to 0. The rear should be set to 1. If they're out, you loosen the little torx screw T25 a little and turn the TPS slightly, adjust to correct values. According to the book, the front should be set while the engine is running at normal temperature on idle.

The rear should be set with the engine off, but ignition on. I have to remap my bike. Might as well be written in Latin for all the use it is to me personally But my TPS was so much off that the bike hardly runs on idle.

It even stalls on down shifts. The only solution for me is to adjust the TPS correctly and get it remapped next week. The reason I didn't notice how bad it was is that I first synched the throttle bodies at the tuner's.

He had the vaccum tool. After the synch, TPS can change according to Mar, so that's why I adjusted it there and then incorrectly.

Then we put the bike on the dyno, and I did notice it stalled a few times, but I thought it was the tuner that wasn't used to it or something Much better than when I left the dyno two days ago. It's alright, I've accepted it and will put it on the stupidity account. It will be fun to hang out with the dyno guys again, they're endurance racers and were racing for 6 hours in Finland yesterday. Do you have to take the air box out and if so how? I have had a quick look but do not want to start butchering and end up doing something regrettable Thanks cal.

But I think it would be hard to adjust the TPS's without removing the airbox. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks cal. After you've removed the lid and the snorkel you need to remove the two trumpets to get the air filter off.

You then take the triangular side doors off and then loosen the hose clamps to the inlets. After doing that you can lift the whole throttle body up and then remove the airbox. From memory I think that's all you need to do, but since it took me several hours to do I have probably forgotten something.
